Last week, the highly controversial MTV Base Roundtable released its hottest Naija tracks chart, Davido’s ‘IF’ song emerged number one on the chart, Small Doctor’s ‘Penalty’ single claimed the number two spot, and Runtown’s groundbreaking single ‘Mad Over You’ got the number three spot.
The top three tracks are undeniable part of the hottest tracks in Nigeria for the year 2017, but not as rated by MTV Base on its debated list. Going by numbers, MTV Base’s top 20 Hottest Naija Tracks of 2017 list’s arrangement will be rubbished, there are other songs released no earlier than November 2016, and has more media impacts, buzz and longevity on the list and didn’t get the ratings they deserve.



According to numbers that can also be considered as facts, Runtown’s hit single ‘Mad Over You’ deserves to be declared the hottest song in Nigeria this year. The song rated number three got over 57 million views on YouTube, 7 million streams on spotify, while Davido’s ‘If’, which MTV Based named number one has been viewed 54 million times on YouTube and 6 million streams on Spotify. Sadly, ‘Penalty’ by Small Doctor did 1 million views on YouTube and 300k streams on spotify, yet it was rated number two, but how?
Recall, female singer Tiwa Savage took to her Instagram to drop a couple of subliminals saying, “numbers don’t lie, they never give credit, its not a disease to be female in the Naija music industry. 2018 will be for the fans only”, in her reaction to ‘the list’ by MTV Base.
It is also important to note that Wizkid’s international track with Drake, ‘Come Closer’ did better than other tracks rated ahead of the song.

Nigerian movie star, Jim Iyke, has delved into the transport business as he launches 'Mr Taxi', a taxi service company. Police to deploy 21,084 personnel ahead of Anambra polls

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Ibrahim Idris, on Tuesday, announced that the police will deploy 21,084 policemen to Anambra for the Nov. 28 governorship election. Idris made the disclosure at the Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room Dialogue session in Abuja. He said that 17,320 policemen would be deployed to the 4,330 polling units across the state while 280 of them would be deployed to the collation centres. The inspector-general said 2,484 of the security agents would be deployed to 414 major streets in the state throughout the election period. He said that the Force Headquarters would provide additional 300 vehicles to the 80 operational vehicles in the Police Command in Anambra. Idris said that additional police mobile force units had also been deployed to Anambra and other states in the South-East and South-South for the governorship election.
