Nigerian movie star, Jim Iyke, has delved into the transport business as he launches 'Mr Taxi', a taxi service company. Jim Iyke (middle) with friends advertising "Mr Taxi" James Ikechukwu Esomugha, popularly known as Jim Iyke, is set to explore another line of business. This time, it is transportation, as he is set to launch a taxi service simply called “Mr Taxi” The launch takes place on October 5. Sharing the news on his Instagram, the actor revealed that the company will provide chauffeur services in the South Eastern states of Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Abia, and Ebonyi. He added that the company intends to extend their services to the South-South. An official launch will take place in Awka, Anambra State, and will be attended by comedian Basketmouth and singer, Timaya. ASUU begins indefinite strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced an indefinite nationwide industrial action. The National President of the union, Dr. Biodun Ogunyemi, announced this on Monday at a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU in Abuja. He said during the strike, there shall be no teaching, no examination and no attendance of statutory meetings of any kind in any of the union’s branches across the country. Dr. Ogunyemi declared a ‘total, comprehensive and indefinite’ nationwide strike after a nationwide consultation with members at an emergency NEC meeting held on Saturday, August 12, 2017. He explained in a statement issued after Saturday’s meeting that their decision followed the failure of the government to fully implement the 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement and the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Customs Re-Introduces Importation of Rice Through Land Borders Hameed Ali, Comptroller-General Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) The Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd) , has, Wednesday, ordered the immediate lifting of the ban on rice importation from import restriction list and the re-introduction of import duty payment at land borders vanguard reports. This was made known by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Wale Adeniyi in Abuja. According to Adeniyi, the ban was only applicable to land borders prior to now. The statement added that henceforth, all rice imports through land border s by rice traders would attract the prevailing import duty of 10% with 60% levy.
